Imagine a huge sky, with fluffy clouds like cotton candy. I, Miguel, owner of MasTorrencito, walk from one side to the other with my arms crossed. God, majestic but with a robe full of coffee stains, watches me with curiosity).

Miguel:

God, we have a serious problem.

God:

What happened again? What happened now? Did the hugs die out? Did the coffee cease to exist?

Miguel:

No, worse… No dogs!

God:

Ah, yes, that. I never put them in the final design. I thought about them, but then I got distracted by the penguins and giraffes… Why do you need them?

Miguel:

God, humanity is sad. We are missing something that makes us feel accompanied, that loves us unconditionally, that welcomes us with a party even when we only go out for five minutes to the store.

God:

Uh-huh, uh-huh… And isn’t that what cats are for?

Miguel:

Cats? God, with all due respect, cats tolerate us, they don’t love us. They see us as food servants. They are divine, but they don’t give you paw, they don’t wait for you at the door with their tongues out, they don’t lie on their bellies asking for love unconditionally.

Pidiendo a dios que cree perros

God:

Mmm… And the fish?

Miguel:

Gosh, when was the last time you saw a fish excited because you came home?

God:

Okay, okay, you have a point. But creating a new creature isn’t just anything. It has to have a purpose…

Miguel:

God, listen to me! A dog would do more for a broken heart than a hundred motivational speeches. It would be the guardian of the children, the companion of the lonely, the protector of the house. It would make even the coldest being melt with a pair of tender little eyes.

God:

Hmm… interesting. What about responsibilities? People already forget to water the plants?

Miguel:

Ah, yes, some do. But those who love dogs will take care of them like their own life. They will take them for walks, they will feed them, they will wake up in the wee hours of the morning if necessary.

God:

And what are the dogs going to do for them?

Miguel:

They will give them love until the last of their days. Without grudges, without asking for anything in return, only love. They will look forward to their humans, even if the human sometimes doesn’t deserve them.

God:

That sounds… beautiful, but also sad.

Miguel:

Yes, it is. Because a dog’s life will be shorter than a human’s, and when they’re gone, they’ll leave us with our hearts in tatters. But they will have taught us so much along the way… They will have taught us what it is to truly love.

God:

(He remains thoughtful.) All right. I’ll make them. But tell me, what do you want them to look like?

Miguel:

That they come in all sizes and colors. Let there be tiny ones that fit in handbags and huge ones that give bear hugs. May some be sleepy and others hyperactive. May they be so smart that they can help humans save lives, but also so dumb that they chase their own tails.

God:

That sounds like a lot of work…

Miguel:

God, you created the universe in seven days. What does it cost you to make a couple of tenderloins?

God:

(Sighs and smiles.) It’s okay, Miguel. There will be dogs.

Miguel:

YES! Thank you, God! You won’t regret it!

God:

I hope not. Although I have a feeling that in a few centuries someone is going to create a breed called “chihuahua” and I will be asked for explanations…

Miguel:

Ehh… yes, we’ll talk about that later.

(God snaps his fingers and suddenly dogs start appearing everywhere on Earth. Barking fills the air. In a shelter, a human and a puppy meet for the first time… and in that instant, the two know they will be friends forever).

In a world that often feels chaotic, uncertain and full of challenges, dogs remind us that the purest, most unconditional love still exists.

They ask for nothing more than our company, and in return, they offer us their loyalty, their joy and their unwavering presence.

The existence of dogs is a gift we often take for granted. They are silent witnesses to our joys and sorrows, guardians of our secrets and companions in our battles. A dog never judges us for our mistakes, never abandons us in our worst moments and always welcomes us with the same overflowing happiness, no matter how many times he has seen us leave and return.

They are healers of broken hearts, therapists without title and friends without conditions. They don’t distinguish between rich and poor, between young and old, between strong and frail. For a dog, his human is his whole world, and every day with him is a holiday.

Dogs have been man’s allies since time immemorial. They have accompanied us on the hunt, in war, in the fields, in hospitals, on the streets and in our homes. They have guided those who cannot see, saved lives in disasters, found lost people and have been the ultimate comfort to those who feel alone in life.

But the most amazing thing about them is their capacity to love. Even when they have been mistreated, abandoned or hurt, many of them continue to trust in human beings. They teach us about forgiveness, about loyalty and about happiness in the little things: a walk, a caress, an afternoon in the sun.

When a dog leaves, he leaves a void that can never be completely filled. But he also leaves a legacy: the memory of his unconditional love, his companionship and all the happy moments he shared with us.

Dogs are perhaps the greatest proof that true love needs no words. They are the best version of what a human being could be: loyal, compassionate, selfless. Maybe that’s why their life is shorter than ours… because in a few years they teach us what it takes us a lifetime to learn.

If we ever doubt that there is any goodness left in the world, just look at a dog. There is the answer. There is love in its purest form. 🐶❤️
